The Inclusive Classroom – Online Workshop

Caring for neurodiverse learners may require additional accommodations, 

modifications, and supports within the classroom environment. 

Often, these supports differ from what educators have previously expected or experienced in the early years setting. 

At times, neurodiverse children benefit from a support person – 

however, children who may be struggling or waiting for an assessment are typically left without formal support, 

understanding, or support plans in place. In these scenarios, caring educators try their best to fill in the support gaps. 

Or, in settings where a support role is in place,

the divide that exists both within knowledge and roles between “the support person” and “the educators” 

leads to a divide among children and care.

 This workshop will give educators the foundational knowledge of an autism diagnosis, a holistic view of neurodiversity, and discuss the importance of both inclusion and social-emotional learning.

Educators will gain insight into how to best support children on the spectrum in an intentional manner within their classrooms. Topics covered: autism, neurodiversity, inclusion, routines, sensory processing, positive language use, and augmented/alternative communication (AAC).
